FC DALLAS SIGNS HONDURAN INTERNATIONAL MARVIN CHÁVEZ

FRISCO, TX (Tuesday, August 18, 2009) – FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock today announced that the team has signed Honduran forward/midfielder Marvin Chávez on loan from Club Deportivo Marathon of Honduras’ Primera División. Chávez will officially join the team pending a medical exam and receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 work visa.

“Marvin Chávez is a player that adds depth to our attacking options, and I think he’ll be a good fit for our system,” said FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman. “He’s a very athletic and versatile player that can play in both the forward and attacking midfield position.”

Chávez, nicknamed “El hijo del viento” (the son of the wind), spent the 2008/2009 season with CD Marathon tallying 11 goals and 11 assists for the Honduran club. With Marathon, Chávez scored the game-winning goal against D.C. United propelling his team into the Quarterfinal round of the 2008/2009 CONCACAF Champions League tournament.

Before being transferred to Marathon in 2008, the Honduran international spent three seasons with his hometown team Club Deportivo Victoria in which he recorded 23 goals and 17 assists. While with Victoria, Chávez helped the team to a fourth place finish in the 2006 Copa Interclubes UNCAF tournament, an international club competition between the seven nations of Central America.

The 25-year-old has earned 18 caps with the Honduran national team, making appearances in World Cup qualifying, the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the 2009 UNCAF Nations Cup and various friendlies. He recorded his first international goal in this year’s UNCAF Nations Cup against El Salvador.
