Protest Brian Ching's Fine...In a Positive Way.
>> Friday, July 17, 2009
Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching was fined $500 by MLS today for the following tweet he made during the Houston/Seattle match last weekend.
"Ref in seattle just cheated the dynamo. What a joke. Not even close. Ref is a cheat"
Myself and many others believe this fine is ridiculous and completely unnecessary. While we could all complain on twitter, send emails or shout to the rafters, it wouldn't really do any good.
So instead I'm proposing a way to voice my displeasure, and hopefully allow others to do so as well, in a productive and positive way, I'm going to create a page on Fundable.com to attempt to raise $500 to be donated to charity.
Here is how this works. We have 26 days to reach the set goal of $500. If we reach the goal, all the money will be presented to Dynamo Charities on Brian's behalf.
Either way, it's going to a good cause and allow those of us who feel Ching should not have be fined to channel some negative energy in to a positive outlet.
Donation Options
If you would like to donate $10 or more, click HERE to visit the Fundable.com Page. This is a pledge of money, your PayPal account or credit/debit card will not be charged if we do not reach the goal of $500. This also means if we don't reach the goal, we don't have any money to donate!
If you would like to donate less than $10, use the PayPal Donation Button below. Every time $10 is accumulated through this option, I will transfer the funds to the Fundable Page. Any money donated through this option will be donated to charity, even if we don't meet the $500 goal on the Fundable page.

All I'm asking is for $1 from 500 people, but if you want to donate more that's fine. I pledge to make this process as open and transparent as possible and will be happy to answer and questions or concerns you might have. Email me a ginge [at] gingetalksthefooty.com with any questions.

I am in for this. Great idea. Maybe a donation to the ACLU? ;)
While I like Brian Ching a lot, I guess I'm not understanding how he should be exempt from criticizing a ref when the whole world also fines managers and players for publicly criticizing. Why do we judge Brian differently?
If your upset with the idea that a player can't criticize an official publicly than that is a whole other matter that would have to be taken up with the league whether he plays in the J-League, A-League, MLS or EPL. And yes, Twitter statements can and have been heard in lawsuits.
Are you gonna raise a petition and offer to pay fines for Drogs or Boswinga? Didn't think so.
The ref is the ultimate authority on the field. Period. If Brian Ching was stupid enough to say that (and i don't twitter, nor care for Houston so i haven't seen it) then he is lucky it's only $500 bucks and not either more, a ban or the ref suing for libel.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
Don't like it.. then don't donate. Simple.. Like leaving Anon posts. Dynamo were robbed and i gave $10 to charity.
Thanks for the support Will.
In the end, this is about allowing those fans that feel the fine was unjust (of the Dyanmo were robbed) to react in a positive way to help a charity.
He should be fined - in fact maybe he should be banned from playing for five games with two suspended.
Former referee Graham standing up for his fellow match officials.
Not really Ginge still bitter over Drogba ban.
