MLS Douche Bag of the Week: Beckham
>> Tuesday, June 9, 2009
This week's D-Bag is David Beckham for his comments made over the past week concerning his return to MLS.
''People have questioned me and questioned my commitment to MLS, to the Galaxy, to soccer in America, I've always said that I'm committed to one, being an ambassador for MLS and soccer in America because I still believe in 10, 15 years this level will lift to a level where it can compete with some of the big teams in Europe. And, obviously, I'm committed to the Galaxy."
Liar Liar. Pants on fire. Committed to the Galaxy? Committed to being an ambassador for MLS and soccer in America? BULLSHIT. The only thing you're committed to is getting caps for the English National Team. If you were truly committed to MLS and the Galaxy you would of come back at the beginning of the MLS season and been playing here for the last four months, rather than spending the spring at AC Milan. You've done nothing to help further the league or the game here in America and the sooner you leave the better.
"I said that to the players before I left and I said that to the manager [ Bruce Arena] before I left. This is not me running away from soccer in America. I'm fully committed to going back to MLS putting in performances like I know I can, being fully fit and working hard for the team. I still believe we've got very good players on our team and I still believe we should be reaching the playoffs. Hopefully, that will happen this year.''
Yeah, you are committed to putting in performances and being fully fit so Fabio Capello will continue to select you for national team duty. Can you even name all your "teammates" in LA? Do you even know what playoffs are? We all know you are here until November and then you are gone. It's so transparent of you to repeat the company line to protect your image and your marketing power by actually trying to fool people into thinking you give a damn about MLS. The really sad part is that people will believe you and they will buy tickets to watch you play against New England on August 8th and Seattle on August 15th...oh wait, you'll be in England for a friendly against the Netherlands. They will buy tickets to see you play against FC Dallas on September 12th...oh wait, you'll be in England for a qualifier against Croatia. They will buy tickets to see you play in Houston on October 18th...oh wait, you won't be back from England after qualifiers against Ukraine and Belarus. Realistically, you'll probably play nine matches before leaving MLS forever.
''I always said that I would be going back to finish the season with the Galaxy, I never expected to stay for six months. When I first made the decision, it was always for three months. But then, obviously, being given the chance to play until the end of the season was good.''
You may not have expected to stay for six months when you initially left, but the moment Don Fabio started sniffing your crotch again, you were damn sure you would be staying at AC Milan. Lie all you want Beckham, you are a worthless douche bag. You've fooled plenty of people but you haven't fooled me. I've heard your lies and I've had enough, go away, stay away, I don't want you in the league. Good bye and good riddance.
Addendum: Beckham has every right to miss club matches for International duty. That's just another reason MLS needs to stop ignoring international dates. I was trying to illustrate what Beckham really cares about is his personal accoaldes and not MLS or american soccer.
Thanks to Adam Soucie from Soucie on Soccer for inspiring this new bit.

country over club...nobody questions the USMNT guys when they miss MLS time for national team games
The MLS guys leave their clubs to go play for country because they have no choice. Its not like MLS "recognizes" US Soccer and breaks for World Cup qualifiers or even the World Cup itself.
And don't use D-Ro as an example. He doesn't play for Team Canada because the Canadian FA is an f'ing shambles.
The top MLS players don't leave league play to play for the national team and the US doesn't go to the World Cup.
Nuff said except ... F-off Becks.
And FFFF
FFFF 4 Life.
two bitter boys, admit it, you're insanely jealous...MJ you're totally off base and clearly reaching with that response
A style note: I much prefer "douchebag" to "douche bag."
However you spell it, Beckham is one.
